Mike Thrussell’s Top Tips from the 2011 Pure Fishing Trade Show

Last week we visited Pure Fishing at their annual Trade Show in Birmingham. We had the privilege of spending some time with sea fishing legend and consultant to Pure Fishing Mike Thrussell. Mike gave us a run down on the latest new products including the Surf Blaster 8000 fixed spool reel, Berkley’s new Nanofil line and the new range of lures from Sebile.

Nanofil

It’s not a monofilament. It’s not a fluorocarbon. It’s not a braid. It’s Berkley’s new ‘unifilament’ line and it’s one of the strongest lines available in an ultra-thin diameter. Nanofil is made out of gel-spun polyethylene and consists of hundreds of Dyneema nanofilaments that are molecularly linked and shaped into a uni-filament line. It’s Dyneema construction gives it superline type strength and Berkley’s uni-filament bonding process makes it super thin and super smooth. It has incredible castability with claims from Berkley of a 50% increase in distance using monofilament of the same breaking strain.

Mike gave us a demo of this new line using a Sebile ‘Splasher’ Lure. It casts like a dream and has zero stretch so every motion of the rod tip is transferred directly into your lure. Conversely every nibble and tap on your lure gets transmitted back to your rod so you can feel exactly what’s occurring with precision never before achieved even when using braid. Nano fil is available in breaking strains from 3lb up to 27lb.

Penn Surf Blaster 8000 Fixed Spool Reel

Photo of the new Penn Surf Blaster 8000 fixed spool reelPenn’s new Surf Blaster fixed spool reel has been developed to achieve maximum casting distances. It also features a low 4.3:1 gear ratio and a long stroke aluminium spool to provide immense winching power and a retrieval rate of almost 1 metre of line per turn. The Surf Blaster reel looks fantastic with it’s gold and brushed aluminium finish and is supplied with both a shallow braid spool and a deeper spool for mono. Mike ran through some of the features of this impressive new reel, in particular its slow oscillating spool mechanism for perfect line lay and its smooth ‘quick turn’ drag system. This reel will be a big hit for anyone looking for a distance casting fixed spool reel and Mike predicts that the Surf Blaster 8000 will be a big seller for 2012. The Surf Blaster has an RRP of £103.99. AB Fishing Tackle price just £89.95!

Sebile Lures

New for 2012, Pure Fishing have added Sebile to their line up. Sebile are a renowned for producing top specification, high quality lures and their range for 2012 is impressive to say the least. Mike gave us an insight into the man behind the company Patrick Sebile and described him as fanatical perfectionist with an attention to detail like no other. These lures are designed with performance in mind and although not the cheapest of lures they’re certainly amongst the best. Mike highlighted Sebile’s Bongo Minnow, Splasher Popper and the Ghostwalker lures as his top 3 so look out for these in the coming weeks on the AB Fishing Tackle website.
