Beachcasters

Beachcaster Rods

Beachcaster rods on the beach.

Beachcaster are predominately used from the shore and are typically 12ft or 13ft in length. Although, aptly named, beachcasters can also be used from the Pier or from the Rocks.

Please be aware, while fishing from the rocks. Use extreme caution as this type of fishing can be hazardous to the inexperienced angler.

If you are just starting out and looking for your first beachcaster, you will probably want to start with a 12ft rod. This size rod is by far the most common and most popular size of beachcaster and for good reason. Available in either 2 or 3 pieces, the 12ft beachcaster is relatively easy to store. Transporting a 12ft rod is relatively easy too and well within the scope of most anglers that drive to the beach.

Alternatively you may wish to consider using a longer beachcaster of 14ft, 15ft or even over 16ft. These rods are known as 'long rods' and were introduced from Europe where flamboyant casting techniques yielding extremely long distances could not be used. With a simple over head cast the longer rod creates a wider arc enabling the baited rig to travel further. Very simple and effective and now many UK beach fishermen opt to use this style of long rod over the conventional 12ft or 13ft beachcaster. Although long rods are becoming more popular, the 12ft and 13ft beachcasters are still the sea angler's favourite.
